Dorothy Thompson (1923-2011) was a major Marxist historian who devoted much of her academic life to the study of the Chartists and was a world-wide authority on the movement. She was married to historian E.P. Thompson. Her talk for the Bristol Radical History Group on ‘The Chartists and their Legacy’, at the Wesley Chapel in Broadmead in late 2010 was one of her last lectures.

For more detailed information on her life and work see the Wikipedia webpage for Dorothy Thompson and Sheila Rowbotham’s obituary in The Guardian (6 February 2011).
