Dr Sarah Chaney is Museum and Events manager at the Royal College of Nursing Library and Museum and an honorary research fellow at Queen Mary Centre for the History of the Emotions. She received a PhD in the history of medicine from UCL in 2013. This was expanded into a book, Psyche on the Skin: A History of Self-Harm (Reaktion, 2017), which also drew on her own experiences of self-injury and mental health services. Her most recent book Am I Normal?: The 200-Year Search for Normal People (And Why They Don’t Exist) is now out in paperback (Wellcome Collection/Profile Books).
